Charley Allen Faulk Memorial Scholarship

New Hampshire high school seniors are eligible to apply for the Charley Allen Faulk Memorial Scholarship, a one-time, $1,000 scholarship toward “book money” for the following academic year.  The winner will also receive a four-year membership to the New Hampshire Writers’ Project.

Applicants must:

  • be high-school seniors attending a school in the state of New Hampshire
  • be entering an accredited two-year or four-year college full-time
  • have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher

Applicants will provide a response of 500 words or less to the following prompt: Write about a book that changed your life and how it did so.

Applicants will also provide a recent high school transcript.  The completed application, which should include:

  1. Full name,
  2. Address
  3. Phone number
  4. Email address
  5. PDF of transcript
  6. Essay answer

Applications should be submitted to scholarship@nhwritersproject.org (2018 submission deadline coming soon). Scholarship funds will be disbursed to the recipient upon proof of enrollment in a school meeting the criteria above.

Charley Allen Faulk was an avid outdoorsman who felt more at ease in the woods than anywhere else.  He was a gregarious and loyal friend who touched many lives.  Charley died at 46, a victim of hypopharyngeal cancer. His wife and daughter, both avid readers, created this scholarship to honor his memory and support the aims of the New Hampshire Writers’ Project.

The New Hampshire Writers’ Project is a non-profit agency that supports the development of individual writers and encourages an audience for literature in our state. We are a nonprofit literary arts organization funded by its members as well as organizations and businesses who believe in supporting our region’s writers and literary heritage.

The New Hampshire Writers’ Project, in providing this scholarship, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, handicap or national or ethnic origin.  Board members, employees, and volunteers (current or former) of the New Hampshire Writers’ Project, or any member of the family of any such Board members, employees and volunteers, are ineligible to receive this scholarship from the New Hampshire Writers’ Project.
