Jim Irons, Idaho

Jim Irons, a native Idahoan, teaches English at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls. He's also been a bookstore clerk, a forest fire fighter, and a sportswriter for The Idaho Statesman. He received a bachelor's degree in English from Boise State University and a master's degree in English from San Francisco State University. His poetry appears in the anthology Idaho Plus: Contemporary Poetry from the American West; his selection as Idaho's writer-in-residence was based on his literary excellence, contributions to the field and a taped reading of his work. As part of his required responsibilities of twelve readings or workshops throughout the state, he's served as a traveling poet on school buses for the Idaho Skylights project in Arco and Challis school districts.

Appointment: Idaho's Writer in Residence is a three-year appointment that requires twelve readings and/or workshops throughout the state.
